Customizable news site ...

Hi all,

I'm working on a new website for an ISP I work for.

I'd like to be able to have users have a customizable start page (portal if you want to call it that) that will include news resources as well as sports,entertainment, stock quotes etc etc.

I don't see any real problem obtaining the content itself, however I'm not sure how to go about letting a user make his own custom page from scratch, then customizing that page in the future whenever they want to.

Any suggestions or pointers?

Any help would be appreaciated.

Have you thought of using phpnuke or postnuke?

I've looked through a handful of sites "Powered by phpNuke"

They look great but can visitors customize thier own start page?

We're aiming to be more like Excite.com but we know little javascript and are more comfortable with PHP, MySQL ADODB etc etc

Could phpNuke/Postnuke design a start page like Excite?

If you going to script it from scratch, I would say keep most of it in the db...like a color table linking to a user table.

use your sessions and you cookies lib, so when the user logs in to the site it it finds the corresponding id to a color via the user

then change the color of the table:

<td bgcolor = "<?php echo $table['color'] ?>">

something like that I suppose.
