Auto Increment Question

Hi all:

We are re-launching our orders db, however since we already have a whole bunch of older-orders, we'd like to start this db from a certain number, say 1000.

So first new order is 1000, second is 1001,... you get the idea.

Using auto-increment with the order-id field, only starts from 1.

Do you have any tips or tricks regarding this?

Im not to sure if this will work, but it worth a bash I suppose

create table orders (
orders_id int(8) NOT Null default '1000' auto_increment;
blah
blah
)

If that doesnt work, why not start of a second table and ARC your first. you will take some of load off the db.

For those of you who might have the same problem:

I took JakesSA's advise. But if the first field you insert is automatic , then 2 follows. So I inserted the first value manually.
It works!

To reset auto_inc to a given number.

ALTER TABLE tbl_name AUTO_INCREMENT = 1000;
