copy file to remote server

other posts on this topic don't quite attack my problem, and the manual doesn't quite get there, either..

I need to copy files from my webserver to a Macintosh fileserver via FTP (because I need to pass username/password info).

However, the syntax for ftp_connect doesn't like the servername, e.g.,

$newfile = fopen ("/tmp/$trimmed_item_number", "w");

fwrite ($newfile, $itu_ecom_copy);

fclose ($newfile);

$conn_id = ftp_connect('ftp.10.2.100.100/files'); 

ftp_login($conn_id, "username", "passwd"); 

ftp_put($conn_id, "$trimmed_item_number", "/tmp/$trimmed_item_number", FTP_BINARY); 

ftp_close($conn_id); 

any hints on what to do with the internal ftp address to make this work?

Not 100% sure, but the ftp site name shouldn't be:

'ftp.10.2.100.100/files'

Try:

'ftp://10.2.100.100/files'

or:

'10.2.100.100/files'

thanks...i've tried various formats, but none of them work. and according to the manual & subsequent notes for ftp_connect, only the format of 'ftp.servername.com' is going to work reliably...

The host name doesn't include the directory. You must use ftp_chdir (http://www.php.net/ftp-chdir) to change to the required directory after login.

This might (haven't tested it) stand a better chance:

$conn_id = ftp_connect('10.2.100.100');
ftp_login($conn_id, "username", "passwd");
ftp_chdir($conn_id,'/files');
ftp_put($conn_id, "$trimmed_item_number", "/tmp/$trimmed_item_number", FTP_BINARY);
ftp_close($conn_id);

thanks, folks...due to your suggestions, all is well. ftp_chdir was the key, and the error-handling script is also very useful.
