MS SQL 7.0 and WINDOWS 2000 SERVER
Greetings, I am currently trying to start a small internet business, and due to my web design format and business model, i must have MS SQL 7.0 and WINDOWS 2000 SERVER...

I was shocked at the price of these items. Is there any advice you could share with me as far how i could get these for cheap? Or even how i might go about finding them?

I dont understand, is it possible to find someone who has an extra liscence to MS SQL and the i could buy it off him? or then it is legal for him to let me use it ? like if i bartered with him?

What about Windows server 2000? Say for instance, if i buy a 1U server, and the ebay guy says that he will install Windows 2000 server on it...is this okay? do i need the licence for it too or something? will i get in trouble ...?

These questions it seems are very hard to find answers to...

Perhaps you can help me?

I would greatly appreciate it.

Greetings, I am currently trying to start a small internet business, and due to my web design format and business model, i must have MS SQL 7.0 and WINDOWS 2000 SERVER

You are making this decision based on what?

Windows 2000 Server is a security nightmare and MS SQL is not open-source so could have all kinds of vulnerabilities/problems.

why do you say it is a security night mare?

i am going to use verisign.com for my merchant services...and thye are very secure...

The reason i need WIN2k is becuase icode.com's accware software requires it...The reason i need MS SQL i becuase i am buying a 1U server and need to have a database built on it for my online MP3 downloading website which is gonna require HEAVY traffic and needs to be very stable with high traffic...i heard that MSQL is not good for high traffic websites...

      anyway,
      your advice is appreciated,

      thanks,

      -taylor

I thought Accware required it's own proprietary SQL system? "Advantage Database Server (SQL/ODBC compliant)"

          correct,
but that advatage database runs only on windows NT...
so i need the MS SQL for the other service based side of the site...

but actually, just from talking with you...i think your right...forget accware...i think i might go with these other guys at actinic...any suggestions for me on that?

I basically want a eccomerce solution where the accounting is all online and super easy to integrate with the website...instead of having to rekey all the info into a local program like peachtree, i just want the most automated is all...can you suggest one?

          what about http://www.oscommerce.com/?

          thanks,
