global trouble

have a class that has a method that uses the global $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['PATH_INFO']
On my test site it works fine. On my live site I have problems with it. I tried $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['PATH_INFO'] and the supper global $_SERVER['PATH_INFO'] and niether seem to work.

Anyone with any Ideas.

Do you use $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['x'] in a function?
Then you can try to do this:

function blah() {
global $HTTP_SERVER_VARS;
(...etc...)

I tried making them global by declaring

global HTTP_SERVER_VARS;

I tried the superglobal $_SERVER['PATH_INFO'] I tried $GLOBALS['PATH_INFO']
It's not just PATH_INFO. I have the same problem with REMOTE_ADDR

Drawing at straws, could it be because I am using a vertual host.

In a test script, put
<? phpinfo(); ?>

and see if if PATH_INFO and REMOTE_ADDR are in any of the arrays...

I used $SERVER['PHP_SELF'] instead of $SERVER['PATH_INFO']. For some reason $SERVER['PHP_SELF'] wouldn't work. Any ideas why. It worked fine on my test site. Am I going to run into any problems using $SERVER['PHP_SELF']? Right now I am using it for a funtion that compares the current path a given source and returns the relative path.

What PHP version is your virtual host running? And does it have register_globals on?

The hosting service runs 4.2.2 and regiser_globals is on.

Just a personal opinion, don't put messages in the subject. Personally, I don't read the subject of the replies. And because I didn't read the subject of your previous post, and because of this: "For some reason $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] wouldn't work.", I thought that you didn't solve your problem. So never mind my question 🙂

Well, the only problem that I've encountered with PHP_SELF, is that it's not defined when you use Xitami server. But since most of the servers are Apache or IIS, it should be fine. I now sometimes use SCRIPT_NAME though...
