Is there a way to log in to a Linux shell with PHP?

possibly with exec(), passthru()....or something else?

That's very interesting and it did work somewhat. The problem is that it's logged in as HTTPD because it's running through PHP. I need to be able to log in as a different user. Any ideas?

Mabye su to whatever account if httpd is in /etc/sudoers but the whole shell from a webserver would make me kinda nervous from a security standpoint.

The script will not execute a user's Unix command directly from a form. It will use strictly two or three commands (preset in the script), and nothing else. I'm not worried about security.

I want to run the login command, but it's a prompt. That's where I run into problems.

Is the PHP running in a UNIX environment, or Windows? If in UNIX, you can write an "expect" script to perform the login...
