Can someone please help me, i am trying to retrieve the last x (say 5) rows from a table, this is for a newsboard. I know that i could pull them all back then just take the last five but is there no way to make this less processor intensive?

use the LIMIT keyword and combine with ORDER BY filedname DESC.
