bringing back record id after insert

Hi There,

Just after a few pointer to help me with a problem.

I have a MySQL table with an id field, or auto numbered....

when i insert a new record into that table, how can i get the id back from the record that i just inserted?

I know in MSSql i guess i would use a stored procedure...any pointers?
