Parse error: Unexpected $

I'm just wondering the best way to find it, it says it's on line 848. But that's the </html>, so I'm just wondering the best way to find it? Perhaps there's a program? I don't know, I'm just looking for another idea, I opened it up in a php coder program, but it's buggy so I don't use it, but it colors stuff, like the

 tags do on this forum, and it shows error as a certain color, and it showed all the text like there was no error. So I'm confused... and just looking for suggestions. Thanks!

I usually would get this error when I haven't closed qoutes on a string. eg. print("hello); . I missed out the second " . For me, it will report the error being on the line where I have the '?>' tag. I would look backward through your code until you find where you haven't closed some quotes.

I did, I read every line, and I've contained the part that it can function without, it's as I suspected, the new part I added yesterday, and I could post that if you want? But it'd be embarassing for me to post :p , but I'll look through again, do you know of a program that perhaps could help? I get these small errors a lot 🙁 , thanks again!

make sure you close all your statements with brackets (such as loops, if statements, functions, etc). That's what I generally check for when the error is on the last line in my script.

In general, I found that editors with syntax highlighting are helpful to spot errors resulting from missing quotes, while indentation can help finding missing brackets (there are some beautifier tools that are supposed to indent code properly in case you made a mistake or did not indent).

It will be a help if you were to post the broken code; no need to feel embarrassed - I'm pretty sure everyone here has either written shockers at some time or other or not written anything at all...

I take it if you excise the new bit of code (just select-and-delete) it works fine? {} all match up? (Generally speaking, a missing ) - which happens to be my typing error of choice - would throw a parse error a lot sooner than the end of the file; but a missing } won't be missed until then.

Two or three suggestions to help your style improve:

• that & should really be an && (i.e., use a logical AND instead of a bitwise one)

• echo isn't actually a function - it doesn't need () and it's actually advisable in some ways to leave them out.

• Speaking of echo; if you've got a big wodge of text you want to output, then instead of using echo it's faster (and cleaner) to step out of PHP temporarily. Eg., instead of
