global $var or $GLOBAL['var']

I was wondering what would be better to use, the global keyword or the super global $GLOBAL[].

More a matter of style and self-documentation than anything:

global $var;

is equivalent to

$var = &$GLOBAL['var'];

which both mean that $var is to be a reference to $GLOBAL['var'].
