WAMP Upgrade Mysql 3.23x to 3.23x?

I have a win2k machine running MySQL 3.23.52 and want to upgrade to the newest 3.23.x release (i think its 55 or 54). Do I need to do anything other than d/l the new version and run the installer? Will the installer find the previous version of mysql and upgrade into the same dir and load the same config?

I have googled for this but could find no info, and the MySQL site is vague on the subject.

It mentions this in the readme or install.txt in the downloaded package. I think it installs over the top withouot any probs - but check the install text.

If only it were that simple.

I d/l'd from the MySQL site and there is not install.txt or readme.txt or any other text files included with the binary dist.

Upgrading between versions in the same major release version - 3.23.x - you can install without any special actions and it will pick up all existing data and options files.

You should always do a backup first, though.
