regrex question

I am attempting to learn regrex. Just need some help with this expression.

/>Totals.+?<TH .+?1">(\d+?)</FONT/

this is actually just a snippet of a larger expression.

I think the .+? is matching "any character, one or more, possibly followed by..." If someone could state what this is saying that would be cool.

Hi,

.+? means "at least one character that is not newline", but taking as little as possible to make the whole pattern match (this is what the questionmark does.
