<?php and <?

Hi,

I just put my script on a server, but it require my php start tag to be in this format: <?php , instead of <? . So, what can i tell the webhosting guy to modify the php.ini or httpd.conf? any idea?

Both the apache and php are installed based on rpm package.

php.ini, but I don't see why you'd want to do that. Just use <?php, it's not that big a deal.

I cant remember if its in the httpd.conf or php.ini but i think its in the php.ini anyway you gotta turn

yes, you are right, it won't a big deal if I just start to build the application. If you have 20++ file and use multiple of <? tag in each file, are you going to spend time to modify it? :rolleyes:

Solution is i modify the short_open_tag= On in php.ini, and restart apache, everything is working.

Actually get EditPlus 2 and you can do it in less than 1min.
But Notepad is still good.
EditPlus is good cos it has line numbers, highlighted syntax and the function of being able to edit bits of code that are in more than 1file at the same time.

With most good text editors, such as Crimson Editor you can just search and replace <? with <?php.

ok guy, my point here is, instead i spent time to change all my file(i am using UltraEdit, i know i can't change it by a simple commmdn to replace), why not I just change a single line at php.ini ? it is more easier right?

Wondering why the short_open_tag set to OFF, is it apply to the latest PHP default setting?

I think that XML also uses <? tags, and this could cause problems. I'd have to verify that, though. I'm not 100% sure.
