browsing linux filesystem from php

Ok.. cerated a great file management system for websites to allow users to edit/view, etc.. Works awesome on windows servers..

Basicallty im using something similiar to this:

$basedir="c:\inetpub\home" or $basedir="home\inet"

then a chdir($basedir);

In windows this works flawlessly, but on a linux based server, setup with the proper $basedir, it says it cant change to directory?

what gives? any ideas?

If you need the actual source, I can post it, but its 10-20 files to add all the features I have, and the main routines are in 3 diff files....

I would think it would work the same... but im not a linux guru and just installed mandrake myself the other night... hope this is the right spot for this post, so... any help pleeeeaase?

Without seeing the code I'd hazard a guess that it's a permissions error. Try initially setting basedir to full access for everyone (chmod 777) and see what happens. If that works, then restrict it bit by bit and find the right ownership/permissions that will work for you and then see if you can live with that from a security perspective. I'm assuming this is a sandbox, so you can do this?

Well, tried chmod'ing before and still never works... as to 'sandbox' i assume you mean testbed? If its a linux term, Im a newbie..

Linux uses forward slashes, so home\inet should be home/inet. Also, where is home? it's usually /home/inet....Tray that and see if it works.

Well diego, its worth a shot.. Ive had several users try to run this on a linux server, and maybe its just a select few that emailed me because it didnt work, but I'll reboot my server into linux later when I get home and try this.. maybe it will work... if not, I'll beat my head on the desk some more...

Thats just the irritating part of it.. works beautifully on a windows server, doesnt do anything on linux.. lol... just my luck.. 🙂

Another reason maybe that the web server doesn't have access to /home/inet? So whenever u try to chdir, you'll get permission denied errors.
