Delay when using mail()

Ok folks,

I have a form that calls a submit page, that takes user info and emails it to an administrator. The code to send the mail is:

mail($to, $subject, $out, $headers);

However, when the submit button is hit, the page sits and spins for over a minute before displaying the confirmation page. The email DOES make it to the correct address.

If I comment out the mail line, there is no delay.

Does anybody have an idea why the server would spin for over a minute before sending the email?

I'm using OSX Server 10.1.4 and AMS.

Hmm, checked the mail logs?

Slow DNS, perhaps.....maybe even "No DNS," perhaps. Dunno, but it sounds a bit like "now, where is the route to XXX?"
