stripping a result of some data...

i have a date in a database...

2003-12-31

and i only want in the output...

12-31

and i still want the query to sort the date as 2003-12-31 before the output - even though i think this is the easy part...

i'm not sure what to research on this...can somebody give me a nudge what i should be looking up at php.net for this?

What your a looking for is substr().

ok...thanks...what am i doing wrong here?

once again...the date i have is 2003-12-31 and i just want 12-31...

this is inside of a loop...i hope that doesn't complicate matters too much...

function get_DateTime ($udate)
{
$month = substr($udate, 6,2);
$day = substr($udate, 9,2);
$newtime = "$month-$day";
return $newtime;
}

something like.

$date = substr($udate, 5);

That will remove the first 5 characters from the string '$udate'.

i had already tried that and it just seemed to simple...anyways...i wonder if the loop is throwing things for a...loop...pardon the pun...duh...

the query and the substr...

<? $query = mysql_query ("SELECT * from main WHERE $row_priv[usid]=mainusid AND status='Live' ORDER by udate DESC LIMIT 0,15") or die ("Yo, it's not working! - Code1A.");
$newdate = substr($udate, 5);

then i'm simply calling it up...

<? echo $newdate; ?>

i was about to quit on this one until your post...it's such a small thing that it's not worth too much headache...

but i did solve it...and it had everything to do with the loop...but once i got it in the right place...it worked great...
