Thumbnails

Can PHP output images as thumbnails? I've found some tuturials on this but they all seem to require GD, which I'm not sure my host has installed. (Any way I can find out aside from asking?) I just want to take an image and have PHP auto-create a thumbnail for it before displaying it. Is that so wrong? :rolleyes:

You will need GD (or some other image manipulation routines) to be able to do this in PHP. Unless you just want to just get the size of the image and do some html restrictions, which could output a funny looking image. To find out if your host has gd installed you could try phpinfo() or even just try to use one of the gd functions in a test script and see if you get an error.

Yeah, I get an error message, but I've also come to find out I have GD installed, so I guess I'm just not using the scripts right. But I've done some research and I've come to find out GD doesn't support GIF files. Yet oscommerce does, so what are they using? 😕

They could be using an older version of GD (older versions support GIF). I don't know though, i'm finding myself with a lot of questions regarding GD as well. I see so much hype and praise about it, yet it doesn't seem like it does a whole lot if you can't use GIF with it, the most common image format for the web.

Have you had a look at that? I've never used it, no idea if it's what you need, but it looked promising
