Help with Regex

I have a line in a program that is not as flexiable as I'd like

if(preg_match ("/\b\$cityd\b/", $city)) {

it matches only if case is correct, and if it is the only word.. for example, Vegas wouldn't match Las Vegas, only Las Vegas would. Anyone help me out a bit here?

Case sensitivity is controlled by the i modifier:

To make a subexpression optional you can use the ? qualifier:
