I'd grab one of the Shopping Cart programs and learn how it works and then start integrating it into your website.

If you are in a hurry, there are complete PHP packages you can buy.

i'm designing one at the moment but only 'cause i have an extented deadline, if i was in a hurry i would follow feldon23 advice and then when you have more time try your own shopping cart.

also try to modify the best one i know (osCommerce) to your own needs, it has everything you can think of and it is opensource, if you want to download it just visit the official site at www.oscommerce.com and download the installation and modification guide at http://oscdox.com.
