recognize properties

was wondering whether anyone had an idea for me...I am trying to create a shopping cart, and not all products have the same criteria, where some have taste, others have colour etc. So when I load my product pages through a template, I need the page to recognize what that specific product has to display and then format the form accordingly, with respect to drop-down boxes and such.

i checked out that site and it's open source cart...i just don't have a cart that needs to be so elaborate...the code was confusing while trying to sort out what i would and wouldn't need. thanks for the suggestion though, if i was a bit further ahead in PHP i may have tried to take on manipulating the code.
