Well,, php doesn't seen like the best option to do this but if you really want to...
What I would do....
Beginning php file, take the time, put it into a cookie,
send the image, there is one method in javascript called "readyState" for the img object(something u can load in the window), once it's done call the php back again to the server saying the load is complete,
now.. this won't be really accurate, it's just a way around.. you will have to send the request, etc,, read the start cookie,, do the math,.. but you will lose sometime there, in the request, etc
