Generating Color Codes

Hey .. I'm working on a project, and I want to generate color codes evenly across the spectrum for a graphic based on whatever number I make up .. like a bar graph.

meaning if I have 10 values I want a rainbow of evenly spaced hex (or rgb) across the spectrum .. and I want the same if it was 25 values ..

anybody have any ideas or suggestions?? I've tried doing simple math (dec and hex) but I'm not getting even results .. please help me decipher these hex color codes 🙂

As you probably know, hex is is based on 16 digits/letters. 0-9 and A-F. If you look at color codes, let's say 3AFFA9, you can decipher it like this:

Code: 3AFFA9
Color: RRGGBB

For Red: 3A
3 (3) x 16 = 48 + A (10) = 58 Red

For Green: FF
F (15) x 16 = 240 + F (15) = 255 Green

For Blue: A9
A (10) x 16 = 160 + 9 (9) = 169 Blue

Yeah .. I knew that much, thanks 🙂 I'm trying to get the colors spread out evenly through the spectrum .. I really dont know the best way of going about it though .. like if I want 10 values do I split the red up 10 ways, blue up 10 ways, and the green up 10 ways? Know what I mean?

I would think so. Convert from hex, determine the difference btw the two colors you enter for each R G B, divide each by 10, then subtract in increments from the high number, and reconvert to hex.
