using a linebreak in a MySQL DB

Okay, so here's my problem. I am trying to create a system which allows users to post recipes to a website but, when I test it out and enter the ingredients, I can't get a line break.

If I just press the ENTER key, it doesn't work, I have to manually type "<br>" at every break, is there any way to work around this?

There is a php function to translate newlines to <br> - Read about nl2br on the php man pages.
