quote of the week, variable to string...

I am aware (and new to php) of the date() function and am trying to understand how to get actual days of the week out of it and place the value into a string. Could someone start me off, I looked around last night and some today for the answer, I still couldn't grasp how to get day of the week into a string so I could have values for if statements, (sunday, monday, tuesday...).

I appreciate any help with this.

I made a mistake in my posting, I 'could' do that above and thank you for your time. My real problem was being able to set a message that is displayed weekly, not daily. In other words, after 7 days has passed a new message would be displayed.

I believe I have to open a file and write or read from it to make sure how many days have passed since the 'first' day...

Could someone help..??? 🙂
