MSSSQL - PHP = Headache

Ok, here's the problem. I've read through how to configure MSSQL with PHP. Let me give you a run down of what I have done so far.

1. Installed IIS 5
2. Installed PHP
3. Manually installed php_mssql.dll into the C:\PHP\extentions dir.
4. Set extension_dir = C:\PHP\exntentions in my PHP.ini file.
5. Uncommented the ;extension=php_mssql.dll in my PHP.ini file.
6. Rebooted.
7. Got error message: PHP Warning: Unable to load dynamic library './php_mssql.dll' - The specified module could not be found. in Unknown on line 0
8. Rechecked PHP.ini. Everything I edited before was still in place.
9. Banged head against keyboard.

I'm running PHP 4.2.02, Win2k, IIS 5 (as mentioned previously). I installed with the .exe and then downloaded the binary zip to grab the php_mssql.dll file.

Any thoughts?

Check if you did not make the same mistake as above (the name of dir ;-)

Well Thora_fan, I can tell you exactly what you did wrong. If you use the .exe download to install PHP, then you can't use any of the extensions, even if you get them from the binary file. You have to install PHP using the binaries full stop.

It's pretty easy to do, simply follow the install.txt file within the .zip file.

Thanks for the replys, I managed to fix my problem. I wound up formatting (for reasons other than this, of course), and reinstalled PHP via the executable. Then I just took the entire binary and pasted it into the C:\PHP folder. I realize I could have just installed the binary on it's own, but I wasn't thinking when I installed the executable, and decided to try it that way. It works now, at least, I'm able to connect to mssql. Actually doing anything with mssql is a whole nother hurdle. But thanks again.
