curl ssl error

I get the following error when using curl to connect to a secure url:

"SSL: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed"

Its obviously something to do with the securecert that the external site uses, but what does it mean?

It means it was unable to verify the certificate. It obviously does not specify the reason. Try opening the desired URL in a web browser, and check the certificate information. Perhaps that will tell you something.
