is it possible to use a OLD 500 MHZ desktop system without a monitor as a server on a lan? IF so, how do you manage all the files on it. Thanks in advanced

If you have linux on it, ssh into it.

ssh, that would allow you to use the computer like u are on it? Do you have to use dos or linux commands(typing) or can u use graphical interface?

you can use X11 (x windows) remotely (and securely over SSH), but I wouldn't recommend it. Plus it's not the easiest thing to set up, especially for someone with limited experience. Use SSH and get used to the command prompt. Servers don't need a GUI. 🙂
