Undefined variable

I have just installed PHP on XP prof with IIS.

However, I am having trouble getting variables passed between screens. Even the simple scripts shown below don't work.

What am I doing wroing

try $_POST['AUTHOR'];

make sure to change your form method to POST if you use planetsim's method. You're currently using GET.

Actually cgraz his not using either. You see $AUTHOR can be used both in the address bar and if someone wants to make a form and submit it to the page.

so if he wanted to access that variable, $POST['AUTHOR'] wouldn't work, he'd have to use $GET['AUTHOR'] because the variable would be up in the url. If he wanted to use $_POST['AUTHOR'], his form would have to be

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried changing the GET and POST actions but neither worked. I have tried this code on the Apache server where I am working and it works just fine.

could it be a setting in the PHP.INI file which is not correct. I am using IIS 5 on XP professional.

You must change this:

ECHO $AUTHOR;

to this:

ECHO "$_GET[AUTHOR]";

Since your form is using method GET you have to use the $_GET[] array, if you were using method POST you would use $_POST[]. It works on the other server because register_globals is turned on there and not on your machine.
