Ok im no great Regex Person.

But i found a script that validates internet addresses which was actually in the phpbb code.

Now there are a few things that i havent actually found out what it means.

ok
first is

symbol.

Im not too sure what it does but it does it to this bit
#([\t\r\n ])

and at the end we have this
(/[^ \"\n\r\t<]*)?)#i

Im thinking the i means first #.

I know the \n\t\r. But its mainly just that symbol.

It's just the delimiter. To quote from the manual:

The syntax for patterns used in these functions closely resembles Perl. The expression should be enclosed in the delimiters, a forward slash (/), for example. Any character can be used for delimiter as long as it's not alphanumeric or backslash ().

i means case-insensitive.
