set up web server

I am trying to get Apache, PHP and MYSQL to work together. My first step is to set up the web server and turn on PHP support. I followed the steps to modify the code in the apache configuration and I was on the testing step. It says to create a .php test file that has the following code: <? phpinfo;() ?>
Then I was supposed to access that file through my web browser. It is supposed to display a table with info about the new php environment, but it only shows me the one line of raw code. I repeated the steps again and it still doesn't work. What am I missing here?

Thanks F8ball....but this is what I get now, when I try that code:

Hi bastien...I am doing that except I am typing in the IP address and locating the file...should I be doing this differently? Thanks for your help.

not sure what's wrong.

Make a new document.

If you're using Dreamweaver or other make sure no other html or PHP is written in the doc.

Type that line in, save your doc and upload it to your server.

Walk me through your process if that doesn't work.

though on a home system it is usually 127.0.0.1

if all else fails you could try www.easyphp.org for a full php/apache/mysql dl which is fully configured for windows

or if you are on a M$ box you could go get foxserv 3.0 this will install apache, php, mysql, perl, python, it works great, i use it on my development server, before i port it to my linux production server

mac os x come preinstalled with apache and php/mysql, are you sure that apache is running, go to the system preferences and look for web sharing and make sure that is turned on, if it says on the apache is running, if not click start

Yes...it is running. After I modified the apache configuration I stopped i and restarted it to make sure it would see my modifications. Any other ideas of what I am doing wrong here? Thanks for your help.

sorry man, apache configuration is a diffictult one to help out with via forums or even email, maybe someone else will have better luck with your problem, i for one have had no problems with my mac os x apache, php, mysql, it worked right out of the box when i installed it, you may have some high end back s*&t going on there, sorry i couldn't help
