Making images using php

Hello

I would want to know if I can make images using PHP. What I actually want to do is to plot something like a digital map, and I already have the co-ordinates of all the nodes and the connections between them. I want to plot all the nodes on a pop-up window, and then draw a line between two nodes if they are connected. All I information I have can be obtained from a database in mysql. I would like to know whether I can use php to do such kind of things?

You need to have the gd library installed but if you do...you can definitly do what you describe.

Thanks, and I am reading the link you posted.
Actually I would like to have some other additional functions of the digital map, like when I move a cursor to a certain node, then the information of that node will be displayed, and I can zoom in or out on the map. Can I also do it with PHP?

You could do it with ming. But it would have to be compiled in to your server or dynamically loaded as an so. It makes dynamic flash movies. You could make a flash movie with your php variables. It's not easy but you could do it.

I have downloaded in installed the php 4.3.0 version, I think it has the gd library in it. But when i tried to write a sample programme and used the imagecreate function, there was an error "Call to undefined function: imagecreate()". What can I do?

You need to make SURE that GD is installed .. it isn't by default.

you can find out by making a blank php file and write

phpinfo();

That will generate an html file for you and you can see if you have GD support or not.

I have checked it, and I think i do not have it. I thought it's by default that it's bundled with php 4.3.0. So how can I install in or activate it?
