Compressing file using Gunzip

hello there... i am coding a script that will compress the specified file. the output file should be tar.gz

some sort of...

shell_exec ('gunzip bla bla bla -xxxxxx ' . $_GET['file']);

?>

Use gzip to compress a file. gunzip is used to uncompress files.

i tried this code and it just generated file.gz but it doesn't compress the file... 🙁

try running from the command line, to make sure that exact command does what you think it does... which it looks like.,..

it just may be that the compression algorithm won't compress whatever it is any smaller...

try a 'tar -gcvf blah.tgz blah.file' that makes gzipped schtuff also

Yeah, you have to add command line arguments. I think you had to use -cvf, but I'm not too sure...use -h to see what you have to use.
