Help, How to pull data from mysql to template/datagrid

Hi,

I am a newbie. I got my mysql and php installed. I want to do a select statemetn to pull fields from the mysql database to a dynamic datagrid, which add recordset to be viewed from the browser. Basically a spreadsheet type of view where each recordset is alternated with color bars. How do I do this?

Is there any sample code out there?

FYI, what would be Mega-COOL is to have a 'Legend' of the Color Code(s)...like for the Red/Pink Cell examples which displays directly beneath the Table. As a simple On/Off option.

In other words:

(RED BLOCK) = Description of the special color(ed) highlight.

Same 'height' as the cells, but with the ability to set a 'width' and a 'description' ...
