I am looking into a service that will take information from my site and then pass the order to a secure server for credit card information to be entered and verified and finally passed for transaction.
My interest is in understanding the process. The service will take the vars that I send, they do the financial transaction securely using php, they then send me a confirmation email and destroy the secure session at their end, finally passing the browser back to the referring page on my site.
The question is whether there is any technical reason why the service on the secure server has to send me an email as confirmation? It would seem more helpful if they were to pass an array of POST variables back to the php script on my site indicating the success or failure of the transaction, and allow my server to take action based on that result.
