skipping the first result

I can't figure out how to skip the first result of a query and start at the second...

I have a table with profiles. each profile is assigned an approval date.

select * from profiles order by approved desc

I tried to use LIMIT 2, 5 - it did not work. It seemed that the query was searching in rows 2-5 for the information.

I need to skip the most recent profile and start at the 2.

Try LIMIT 1,5.

And read up on LIMIT.

OK, I tried the query again, but this time used

LIMIT 1, 5

Again, the query search records 1-5. I my database holds over 1000 different records. I need to sort them by their approval date and pull out the 2nd returned result through the 5th.
