a simple way to en/decode a string

I have a short string to encode or encrypt in order to pass it through an url.
Do you know some php fonctions which can do that ?
Something like str2bin or anything else ...

PS: sorry for my poor english 😉

rawurlencode() ?

It depends on what type of encryption you are trying to do. Are you just trying to make it so that it is not easy for people to read, but with more work they would be able to get it... or is this sensitive information which should take a long time to break.

Is the information time-sensitive? Is it worth passing in a URL - why not just store it server side?

All things to think about.

Infact i work on an anti-robotic registration method.
I create a png picture and to do this i need to pass the string to show in an url. So in fact this information only needs a low level encryption type.
I think rawurlencode() or something like that, will be enough ... Don't you think so ?

PS: the string may be clearly read in the pic format by a human.

But wouldn't an automatic registration script (from now referred to as ARS) be able to read the URL instead of the image to get the string? In PHP there is a function called rawurldecode(), which ARS's can use to decipher your rawurlencod()'ed string...

Perhaps you're right. I've try the solution to use mcrypt_encrypt but when i use the encrypted string in the url this doesn't work (cause it uses some special char)

Ok, if you encrypt it first, and then use rawurlencode, then it should be fine 🙂
