im going to try to see if i can install apache at work (military). im working on a page for the intranet/lan and id rather use php, but the server is IIS and asp is a (#&@ to write since i dont like writing it.. anyways, the server is on IIS.. i want php..

i did some research and ive found that you can install apache on a IIS server and put apache on a different port, and it will work fine. the question i have is if install apache on a different port, on a IIS/windows machine, can i still install/use MYSQL?

ive tried to do some research on it but i havent found anything.

also, if i use apache in a windows/IIS system, does it work just as good as apache on a unix system, or are there things that arent supported?

thanks for any answers

Why don't you just install php and use IIS? The php zip binary installation comes with instructions for doing this. However if you can ditch IIS and just use Apache that's even better.

well thats the thing. its a IIS server for work which we run a asp thing for our command.. so i cant really get rid of it.

im not sure what you mean about installing php and using IIS.. i was just gonna download and install apache on the IIS system and put it on a different port (if the guy lets me anyways).

i cant remove IIS, but i wanna add apache in there, so i can write php.. im pretty sure thats possible, i just need to put apache on a different port.

my main question now is can i make MYSQL databases for apache on a windows system?

You can get MySQL for Windows http://www.mysql.com and it will run on a port so it doesn't matter which webserver you use. As for PHP you can go to http://www.php.net and go to downloads, get the binary distribution (zip file), unzip it and read the install.txt file. You can install php to run in IIS and your asp files will still function normally.

If you need help trying to set it up with IIS just post here.

            well the guy said..

"Eric, in discussing your request with Mike Cieslak we have concluded it not a wise idea to mix technologies on our production server. If you are having difficulties getting your content setup, Rene'e or I are here to help. Let us know if we can be of assistance. "

aint that some crap.. i really dont see how it will be an issue. oh well. then i asked him if i could just store the page (photo album) on my personal server and just pull it into the IIS page.. and he was like...

"Eric, have you worked with FrontPage. I know Rene'e has done alot of work with FP photo galleries and FrontPage is being used by N1, also. We can probably facilitate getting you setup with FrontPage. "

so i replied basically saying that frontpage sucks and i dont use wysiwyg's.. but thanks.. lol

            anyways.. thanks for the help
