Apache

I am using a Cobalt RAQ with Apache and the rewrite module compiled. I need to make use of the module and have it take the ? from the url so that search engines can index the site.

I don't really know apache that well, but do have a local machine that can be used as a testing machine to work out how to do it.

Basically where to begin and steps I need to take would be excellent
