Small content management script?

Hi,
I am a toal php newbie but I want to create something like this using php: www.fishtheriver.com/reports/index.asp?id=857

I want to have a list of articles on the left and the content area for articles on the right. Also, I would like to store the articles in a mySQL database.

Does anyone have a godd place to start? I was hoping that some type of script may already exsists that I only have to modify.
I can handle minor php stuff but trying to do it from scratch may be over my head.

Thanks for the reply. I already have a small portal built around phpBB but I want to add an article database that is independent of the forums. I check phpnuke out already and it really is not what I need. Thanks though.
