Need DOCUMENT_ROOT help

Hi. I'm a PHP newbie and I'm trying to use DOCUMENT_ROOT in a script but I couldn't get it work. Can you please tell me what's wrong? Here're the things I tried:

echo $DOCUMENT_ROOT."<br>";
echo $_SERVER["DOCUMENT_ROOT"]."<br>";
echo $HTTP_SERVER_VARS["DOCUMENT_ROOT"]."<br>";
?>

Errors:

Notice: Undefined variable: DOCUMENT_ROOT in d:\wwwroot\p\tmp.php on line 2

Notice: Undefined index: DOCUMENT_ROOT in d:\wwwroot\p\tmp.php on line 3

Notice: Undefined index: DOCUMENT_ROOT in d:\wwwroot\p\tmp.php on line 4

I'm using PHP 4.3 on Windows XP Pro and there's a php.ini in Windows folder in case you need to know..

Maybe

$SERVER['PATH_TRANSLATED'];
or
$SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'];

is any help? Try phpinfo() for a nice listing of your environment.

Thanks for the help bjwilke. They might work but the thing I want to understand is why the codes I posted aren't working when they are valid PHP code. Even one of that examples are taken from PHP 4.3 manual :-/

dude, i don't think the $DOCUMENT_ROOT variable is not compatible with IIS. use apache. also, create a blank php file and put this code:

<?phpinfo()?>

then look at it. it has all the server variables and other goodies. look for document_root and see what it tells you. good luck.
