... at the risk of telling you what any fool would know DragOn ... do you already have a mainboard or are you buying the CPU first and then the mainboard? If you already have a mainboard, you don't have any choice about which CPU to buy. They're not mutually compatible. There are AMD mainboards and Intel mainboards. And there are different socket types even within those categories. Also, the mainboards usually have a CPU limit. You can't stick the latest 2.5 GHz CPU in just any old board. You need to check the board parameters.
Sorry if you know this already - I just wanted to save you from an expensive mistake.
As for the preferred choice of CPU, AMD is markedly cheaper than Intel. I'm not, however, in a position to judge as to quality differences. The magazines I read seem to suggest that Intel is the first choice for extreme applications such as video editing or multiple track sound-studio work. I wouldn't know.
I'm thinking about building my own PC in the latter half of this year. I think I'll go for AMD since they achieve almost the same performance at a much lower price and I'm not interested in any extreme applications. I'd like to give my money to AMD and support a quality company that caters to the slightly less affluent.
