Spliting a number of IPs from a text box to a table row

Hey ppl. Im not sure how to do this but... when I enter data in a textarea, like IPs:

how can i split them up into seperate ips? and create a mysql query for each one to send as a new record in a database? thanks. help appreciated.

Hmm, it didnt seem to work! I tried this:

	$array = array(split("[0-9]{3}\.[0-9]{3}\.[0-9]{3}", $_POST["ips"]));

	foreach($array as $ip){
		print $ip."<br>";
	}
}

looking up split in the manual will tell you that it doesn't work that way.

preg_split wouldn't work either though it is more powerful, but what do you want to split at? In your data it is a newline in some cases, but nothing at all in others. So, you don't have any characters to split at 🙁

you could use regular expression to extract all IPs, like

preg_match_all('/\d{3}\.\d{3}\.\d{3}\.\d{3}/', $text, $matches);
print_r($matches);

actually I think {1,3} might be closer, but that's up to you.

preg_match_all(); isnt very accurate... Go here: http://phpevo.com/split.php and put in a number of IPs, with no spaces, just a block of IPs.

Ok, ive finalized it. Heres the code:

$text = $_POST["ips"];

	preg_match_all('/\d{1,3}\.\d{1,3}\.\d{1,3}\.\d{1,3}/', $text, $matches);

		foreach($matches as $match){
			foreach($match as $key => $val){
				print $val."<br>";
			}
		}

... I get unexpected results. Copy/paste those IP in the textarea and have a look. More help would be appreciated, thx.

PS: 3 numbered IPs (111.222.333.444) work as expected... but 1 and 2 numbered IPs dont (1 numbered: 1.2.3.4)(2 numbered: 11.22.33.44). Any suggestions.

think about it yourself:

22.33.44.5522.33.44.55

would you know whether this is supposed to be
22.33.44.5 522.33.44.55
22.33.44.55 22.33.44.55 or
22.33.44.552 2.33.44.55?

in this case you may, because 552 is too high to be valid, but you just tell php to match up to three digit, so how should it know??

I'd really recommend a separator rather than tuning the pattern, because in this case:
22.33.44.1122.33.44.11
it is always ambigous where to split.
