ob_gzhandler issues

has anyone experienced ob_gzhandler issues when setting output_handler = ob_gzhandler in php.ini ?

at first, this extra line was an incredible boost (pages loaded twice as fast) to my server, but a week or two later, a handful of users reported getting garbled output instead of html.

they're using the same browser / ver / platform i am (ie 6 sp1 on a pc) so i don't think it's fair to blame the browser. might there be issues with the server? apache?

has anyone else experienced this?

I've never ran into that problem, but to be fair, I've never used ob_gz on anything with a wide audience (ie, more with more than 10 ppl from my office).

If you are sure that you haven't changed anything on your side, and if you've eliminated server side glitches (ie, reboot and see if they still have the problem). I would begin trying to duplicate the issue.

Speaking generally, if you haven't changed anything, then more than likely they have. Don't listen to any vehement or pathetic protestations of innocence. Rather, steel yourself by brushing up on a couple issues of BOFH and demand that they bow down in acquiescence and promise never to modify their system again! I started out in this industry working tech support for an ISP for a year. The most important thing I learned was: Never, Ever, EVER trust end users (or feed them after midnight).

i'm curious what issues on the client end might be causing this. have you seen people talk about this issue elsewhere?

I've never really tried to troubleshoot this before, so I'm guessing here, but it seems like there's several variables that can affect the results: Browser version, MIME type settings, updates (SP, hotfixes, security, etc), third-party software (things like GetRight or browser addons), and the OS.

I think that list is roughly in order of most to least likely. Sorry, I can't provide much solid help, but maybe someone with more direct experience could comment?
