check php code for errors

I am new to php and was wondering if there is a script that will allow you to validate a script for any errors and will highlight it.

i'm sure there are somewhere, but if you try to "run" (i.e. view it through a browser) any php page (with error reporting turned on) you will see error messages and line numbers if something's out of place...you can always change the error reporting
