Is there anyway to force the save-as dialog box on someone? I don't want to force them to DOWNLOAD it, just bring up the save as box. Its for images, btw.

EDIT: I forgot the dont, made it sound like i was a hacker without it.

I've snooped around the php manual, and it does not appear that this is possible using php.

I've never even seen that done using anything else, either, in my 5 years of internet use.

You just have to send the correct headers. Here's a code sample from some code i wrote to force a photo download.

$file = "my_photo.jpg";
$size = filesize($file);
header("Content-length: $size");
header("Content-Disposition: inline; filename=\"my_great_photo.jpg\"");
header("Content-type: application/download; name=\"my_great_photo.jpg\"");
readfile("$file");

What if im pulling the image contents out of a database and have no file on the server to do that with?

You could pull the image contents from your database, write them to a file, force the download, then delete the file. I'm not sure, I've never done anything like that before, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Might use a bit too much server overheads though . . . 🙂

Wont work if many people are on the site, and want to download an image. I thought of doing what you said, but because of the above reason, im not going to do it.
