Thumbnails Showing Up Black

My GD2 thumbnail routine seems to work ok but the images (jpegs) turn black in the resize process. Anyone know a solution for this problem?

Im using php 4.3.1

are you using imagecreate()? if so, try imagecreatetruecolor(). this fixed it for me. however,

"Note: This function was added in PHP 4.0.6 and requires GD 2.0.1 or later

Note: This function will not work with GIF file formats."

I am using imagecreatetruecolor() and still getting this problem. And since im using php4.3.1, i know i have the right version of GD and its capable of doing it. Still stumped..
