Formatting text that is added to a database

Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to set up my textarea in a news posting form to recognize line breaks. When I pull out the data and display it on my front page, I need it to recognize those line breaks that are entered in the form. Can sombody tell me how I would set up a function to get the textarea to recognize line breaks and how to implemnt it.
