MySQL Permissions

Well i didnt have enuff troubles already, i screwed up mySQL.

I got flustrated trying to connect to a database, so i used webmin, and clickied on one Permissions or another, and i think i set hosts permissions to 'any.' I forget. Now whatever i click on gives me error similar to this:
DBI connect failed : Access denied for user: '@' to database 'mysql'

Anyway i got Mandrake 9, so i tried uninstalling and reinstalling mySQl because it's easy, but it don't help. The config files must stay put, so i need to know where they are.

Damb UI anyway. Shouldnt be allowed to click on things until you pass a test that says you don't need to.

well since you are so click happy, you should go back into webmin and click around some more and maybe you will fix it

so don't tell us you did something dumb and don't remember what you did, that is like taking apart your car engine, but don't remember how to put it back together

I was asking where the heck i might have actually changed the permissions when i clicked too glibly. IOW, where i might look in the file structure to fix it, and learn, and not do that particular dumb thing again.

Which i did myself, after much wandering around blindly bumping into stuff when you probly could have gently guided me instead of making me the object of your humor.

I mean, if you wanted to know which piece of your car engine might cause it to quit running, and i had a vague idea of what pieces you were messing with, i would at least try to give you a vague idea of where to look.

I'll bet you're one of those sadists that likes to say "RTFM" to newbies, huh.

no i'm not, but i pointed you in the right direction i said go back into webmin and fumble around in there, if you can't remember where you were, dig, just like anyone else would do, kinda hard to get help for something like this over a forum, BTW before you go clicking around in software again, RTFM, LOL, couldn't resist

Telling me to click on things is not the correct answer, since that's what got me in trouble in the first place. As i indicated, clicking on things produced an error so what you were really telling me was to continue fumbling about in the wrong direction.

So the question, again, was where to start digging.

Since you're telling me to dig in webmin, and i've already discovered that's the wrong place, according to your sig you should have another answer.

Not that i require one, or would trust any that you provided. You say it's hard to get help for something like this on a forum, perhaps that's because of people who are deliberately unhelpful.

no not really, it is for people like you who are being ignorant and not explaining better of what the problem is, if you messed it up in webmin, i am just saying that would be a good place to check otherwise, i would back up all my databases, then try and reinstall or reconfigure mysql good luck
