Hi. I am trying to use HTTPS for a page to make it secure but the page wont show up. I get a Security Alert Box that pops up then i click ok then it says 404 error page can not be found.

Is this something to do with COde or some CHMOD settings or what?

How do i make a page secure?

HTTPS all depends on what server you are running. Apache is gererally the easiest and cheapest to setup with a FAKE SSL certificate. So long as the mod_SSL is alredy compiled into the Apache instalation.

Also SSL also uses port 443, just FYI...

My server uses Linux and Apache.. but what you said makes no sense to me.

DO you have any specific instructions for a moron like myself? Or know of a link that exaplins it in detail?

What distro of Linux are you running. Some such as Mandrake come with SSL pre installed.

Standard web traffic communicates on port 80, but SSL (Secure Socet Layer) uses port 443. The easiest way (if you can) is to install a distro that comes with SSL installed.

HTTPS = SSL... The prefix of https tells the web server that you are going to communicate over a secure connection, SSL.

If you can not reinstall the entire OS, then you are going to have to recompile apache with mod_SSL installed. Unfortunatly I do not know of an easy way to tell you to do this. However for configureation you can look at webadmin.

I see, so if the version of apache that is on my server Doesnt have SSL i'm shit outta luck?

I am using a rackspace server for my hosting... do i need to tell them that they need to install apache with SSL? Seems like they would already have that...

They probably do already have the SSL module compiled in.

No if your distrobution does not have the SSL module, you can always add it, but this requires recompiling the apache server. (Which to me is not all that easy).

What you can do is look in the httpd.conf file for apache and see if there is a mod_ssl section.
