Newbie please help

Hi,
My problem is this: I have an html form that posts data to a php script for credit card processing. The processor need the amount to be sent in cents so $10.00 must be sent as 1000 how can I strip out the "$" and "." from the input from the form? It can't just strip all occurences of "$" and "." because if it would create invalid email addresses IE [e-mail] would become johndoe@domaincom any help would be great thanks in advance

why don't you use extra field, to save the amount without the $ sign, because it is just faster and easier processing it,
once you have field, which save only the digit, ie, 10.00, just times 100. then you have cents
10.00 100 = 1000
10.54 100 = 1054

Ah, Problem, that is OK if customer does do 1000.00 for $1000.00 dollar but if customer just put 1000 for $1000 dollar then custmer is charged $100000 dollar... AHHH More help apprecicated.

the code checks for a dot within the amount, if exists, times 100

$str = 100;
//$str = 100.00;
if(ereg("\\..*",$str)) {
  $str = $str * 100;
}
echo $str;
